In celebration of Dementia Action Week at the University of Salford has delivered a number of public engagement events in order to prompt change and education surrounding Dementia.

Events included ‘The Power of Music’ with an afternoon of interactive music performances and a public discussion featuring actor & alumnus Christopher Eccleston and a panel of experts within the health and media sector, to debate the portrayal of dementia in the media and its impact on our society.

Yesterday we did a ‘Sportathon’ where students, staff and visitors of the University used equipment from our gym on campus to do as many km as possible, for the number of people in Salford living with Dementia.

Together we reached 308km and raised over £300 thanks to match-funding by our Santander branch on campus!

The University also opened its doors for a tour our ground-breaking science laboratories. This Public engagement event is sponsored by Alzheimer’s Research UK and included interactive demonstrations, followed by panel discussion focused on advancements on biomedical research.

Thank you for your support!

As we come to the end of our campaign, please keep sharing and encouraging other to make a difference TODAY.

We welcomed alumni and supporters of the university to our Supporter Thank You Event. We had some wonderful guest speakers including our Chancellor Jackie Kay. We also offered 3 exclusive University of Salford tours, one of the tours was our amazing Dementia Hub! Our supporters had an exclusive tour of the specialised facilitates and also met with some of our associates. Our event allowed our supporters to see first-hand how they are impacting the lives of our associates and their families. For more information about our hub please check out our description and for regular updates please follow us @SalfordGiving

It's always a good day down at SID’s café! It incredible to see the impact these activities have on the lives of those living with dementia and their care partners. Check out the photos of our latest SIDS café, where the members made some delicious truffles and also had a very informative visit from a Community Support Officer!
